Tech Talk
HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV–all over a single cable. HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It supports all ATSC formats–standard (SDTV), enhanced (EDTV), and high (HDTV).
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

Don’t waste your time or money on this system. I have had two of them in 2 years and I am looking for a new system. Quality is just not there!!!! System screeches and grinds shortly after you have it. DVD/CDs get stuck and stop working. And let’s not forget that it run extremely HOT…..Simply not worth your time or effort.

This system sucks. Period.
I bought it because it was 1000 watts with a 5 disc changer. The look is sleek and modern and the speakers are small enough to tuck away without anyone noticing. It also comes with AM/FM receiver, USB port connection for mp3 players, and two AUX connection/channels.
When it works, it downright puts out some of the most awe inspiring bass and sound around. Music played with the highest bass setting rattled my sliding glass door! I was highly impressed. Picture quality was okay and I wasn’t too fond of the on screen menu.
However, the biggest problem was getting it to work.
The response time for any function is excuriatingly, painstakingly, slooooooooow. There’s at least a 2 to 5 second delay with response time once a button is pushed.
Music listened through the headphone jacks lacked any bass and sounded very flat. When relaxing, I primarily listen to my CDs with headphones. It was not the headphone experience I was hoping for.
Within one week of use, it stopped reading ALL of my DVDs. I finally gave up trying after a few days and connected my older yet better JVC DVD player through the AUX jack and used the unit as a reciever and as a CD player when I was patient enough.
Within a few months it stopped reading ALL of my burned CDs and only a select few of my store bought CDs. Within a few more months the entire system refused to read any DVD/CD format. I used it soley as a reciever and used my JVC as the primary DVD/CD player.
Within a few months after that it refused to turn on. I unplugged it, plugged it back in, held the power for minutes, tapped the power button lightly, disconnected and reconnected everything. Nothing.
Eventually, I stomped on the unit and tossed it in the dumpster.
At least the radio worked.

I tried my best to keep this item but it was terrible. There was hardware missing and the system was buggy. Sometimes the sound modes would act differently than described and the speakers had a crackling effect in Dolby mode. I contacted RCA for the missing parts and they advised they could not and that I would have to send the entire system back to them on my own dime. At that point I threw in the tolwel and returned it.
Take care

We got this system new in Aug-07. It worked reasonably well for about 18 months, tho with minimal use in our vacation home. I had trouble getting it to shuffle CDs reliably which is my favorite mode of music listening, but I thought that was me. Then it wouldn’t open a tray, run any function (like sound for the TV), respond to the remote, respond fully to any button command (it put up graphics for opening a tray or loading a DVD or CD, but didn’t actually accomplish anything). I left it unplugged for a few months as it was now out of warranty anyway, thinking a good reboot might help. The screen is now stuck flashing Bye Bye, which is either a cruel programmer’s joke, or a happenstance prophecy.
I called the service number, got busy signal, repeatedly redialed for 30 minutes always getting busy signal, and finally went to the internet. Obvious from reviews, service is a joke. It would appear that RCA has gone to a get-the-customer’s-money-ONCE business model, so if they get you once they know they don’t have to be bothered with you as a repeat customer. After enough folks have been burned I suppose they (Thompson Inc.) plan to BK the brand or sell it to someone who thinks they can get one more puff out of this dead cigarette butt of a company. As with many others who have done reviews here on Amazon and elsewhere, that’s the end of RCA anything for me. No quality, no service, no value, no integrity.
