DLP projectors utilizing a mechanical spinning color wheel may exhibit an anomaly known as the “rainbow effect.” This is best described as brief flashes of perceived red, blue, and green "shadows" observed most often when the projected content features high contrast areas of moving bright/white objects on a mostly dark/black background. The scrolling end credits of many movies are a common example, and also in animations where moving objects are surrounded by a thick black outline. Brief visible separation of the colours can also be apparent when the viewer moves their eyes quickly across the projected image. Some people perceive these rainbow artifacts frequently, while others may never see them at all.

My sister has a DLP projector over at her place, and one of the things I quickly found out was this shimmering rainbow effect. Apparently most DLP systems make use of a white-light lamp which is then filtered through a colorwheel to alternatively project the R, G, and B components of a picture. Because they’re spaced in time, waving an object quickly enough in front of the lens (like say, your hand ) will reveal a rainbow-like effect as its lit by each color.

Red color balance, blue color balance in projector ?

I reset the blances in my projetor, now the image looks really bad. the projector is a viewsonic pj500 and now the image is all altered. How can i fix it? should the colors be balanced? please|

Get a video calibration disc such as Avia Guide to Home Theater or Digital Video Essentials, and follow the step for color and tint adjustment.
