Yes. A projector made specifically for presentations will not be a good substitute for a video movie projector. Although you can use a small lightweight projector used specifically for movies to do presentations on.

business projector versus a home theater projector? Is there that much of a difference in black levels?
I am budgeting about 500-600 for the project and about 100 for the screen. I can afford a 2000 projector.
A ViewSonic PJ506D SVGA (800×600) 4:3/16:9 2000 lumens business projector is going for 500 with a mail free screen and mount offer.
An InFocus In72 WVGA (852×480) 900 lumens home theater projector is going for about the same refurbished with no extras.
I have read that I really should get a home theater projector rather than a business projector like the 506D, but the lumens scares me.
I am projecting on an 80″screen with blinds and curtains closed. no lights. still some ambient light.
Which will be better. I am going to use it the a really nice DVD player, Wii and Home theater PC. No interest in HD DVDs for atleast 3-4 years when I will prob upgrade this anyway.

What is the difference between low-cost digital projectors and expensive ones?
I mean in terms of picture quality, reliability etc. I want to get a projector to watch DVDs at home but I don’t wanna get a useless one or else an expensive one that gives me stuff I don’t really need. Thanks.

Home Theatre Projectors: 4 Key Difference from Plasma TV’s
Recent advancements in technology have made home theatre systems more inexpensive and affordable than ever. Prices of LCDs, LEDs and Plasma Screens have been at an all time low due to the production capacity of these devices. For starting enthusiasts, this is a good time to invest on home theatre systems.
There is some debate on whether one should use home theatre projectors or TV based screens when it comes to home theatre systems. Some purists argue that home theatre projectors are the closest things to a movie theatre. Others say that when it comes to HDTV, TV based screens such as plasmas, LCDS, and LEDs have better resolution. Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of home theatre projectors compared to LCDs, LEDs and Plasmas:
- Projectors are light and inexpensive. Projectors are portable and they can be easily placed in any part of the room. They are significantly cheaper than LCD’s and the like. These days however, there are LCD’s that start for less than 500 dollars and if the price differences between a projector and an LCD or LED start getting lower, there may be a shift to LEDs , LCDs and Plasma Television Screens
- Projectors are adjustable. The viewing size of your screen can also be adjusted with a projector. You can have a viewing room of a whole white wall with your projector. Some projectors have their guides on how to optimally use them
- Lifespan. Projectors use lamps and bulbs that do have a lifespan between 2000 to 8000 hours. Some more inexpensive projectors have a bulb lifespan between 1000 to 3000 hours. This is a major consideration especially if one is a frequent viewer
- Visibility. Some projectors need low ambient lighting levels when viewing. This means that during the day time, perhaps the viewing quality of a projector needs some adjustment in contrast as compared to LCDs, LEDs and Plasmas
Whatever the case may be, whether one chooses projectors or plasmas, there are other considerations in your home theatre system. After choosing your viewing vehicle, the next choice would be your sounds. This again involves the size of your viewing room. Some people prefer a 2.1 set up most especially if the home theatre system is perhaps in their bedroom or in a small private study room. Most opt for the 5.1 set up especially if their home theatre system is a multi utility area like the living room or the den.
There are lots of resources for you to check about which technology is suited to your needs. The internet is full of information that can help you get started in your home theatre system.

Difference between Digital and Traditional Projector Lamps
From home theatres to business presentations, we use projectors for various purposes today. Old-fashioned projector lamps were used in projectors earlier. But now they are being replaced by digital projector lamps. To know more about the difference between these two types of projector lamps, read on.
Traditional Projector Lamps – These projector lamps usually make use of halogen bulbs. The major drawback of these bulbs is their inability to produce the brightness needed for projecting high-resolution images. Moreover, the images transferred by these halogen bulbs may have a yellowish tone, which spoils the whole effect. These lamps also tend to die out faster than digital projector lamps. Finding a replacement for these lamps is also very difficult as the production of traditional projector lamps has gone down considerably.
But the biggest advantage of traditional projector lamps is that they are less expensive when compared to digital projector lamps. So those with a stringent budget and don’t necessarily require high-quality images for their presentations can opt for these lamps.
Digital Projector Lamps – These projector lamps are used in LCD and DLP projectors. Digital projector lamps make use of metal halide or xenon bulbs, which have a longer life. The resolution of the images produced by digital projector lamps is far superior when compared to traditional projector lamps.
The biggest disadvantage of digital projector lamps is that they are expensive than traditional projector lamps. But it’s a small price to pay given the quality of the images that you’ll get.

What’s the difference between a LCD projector lamp and bulb?
In my classroom, the LCD projector image says, “Replace lamp”. As of now, I can use it, but a yellow light is blinking on the projector, so I”m not sure how long it will last. Of course our head custodian is gone (for a good reason) and no one else knows what that means. What exactly does “replace lamp” mean? My bulb burnt out about a month ago, so that should still have lots of life left in it. Thanks!
