How DLP Micro Projectors Outperform LCD Projectors

Say the word ‘projection’ and some of us think of clunky, noisy reel to reel projectors showing black and white movies. Some of us think of going to the movie theater. Some of us think of the multimedia projector found at our workplaces.

In a few short years that will not be the case. Many people will be the proud owners of micro projectors and there will be no turning back. Never heard of them?  Well, you missed the first generation of these handheld projectors. We are now seeing the second generation of micro projectors enter the market and they are proving to be very popular.

Imagine being able to pull a small device out of your purse or pocket, unfold it or flip down a small stand, insert your mobile phone and project a full length feature movie from floor to ceiling in any room you choose?

The first generation of micro projectors arrived on the market in late 2008. These projectors all offered resolutions below 640 x 480. With this second generation of pico projectors, much higher resolutions, such as 800 x 600, are being offered the consumer.

Other improvements in the second generation of handheld projectors are longer battery life and better color contrast. Some of the second generation handheld multimedia pico projectors use DLP ( Digital Light Processing) technology rather than LCD (liquid crystal diode) technology. DLP projectors do not have filters,  have more brilliant color, greater contrast ratios, and greater picture reliability. DLP projectors are faster than LCD, resulting in videos that do not blur. Because DLP  projectors use a single chip, the units are more compact and lighter in weight.  The end result is a clear, high contrast image with crisp, true-to-life color.

No more email attachments with huge files of videos from your last vacation. Instead, invite your friends and family over to your place for a private screening. Your living room wall is your screen, and your micro projector provides a crisp and colorful show. Pass the popcorn, please. The age of handheld projectors has arrived!
