Question by free.bullets: Should I buy a projector?
I’m thinking about buying a projector. I’ll be using it with a computer and tv. It has to be cheap. I’m thinking of getting this one:

http://www.amazon.com/View-Sonic-PJ503D-ViewSonic-Projector/dp/B000OLG72U

http://www.viewsonic.com/products/projectors/PJ503D/

I can get it for $ 400 after the rebate. When it says, 800 x 600 SVGA Pixel Format, what does that mean?
Does 800×600 mean that that’s the max resolution for my computer, or can I have more resolution?
It has 1500 lumens and a 2000:1 contrast ratio
I have a very dark room for it
I calculated it together and it said the max my screen can be is 50″ high by 66″ wide since my room is 11′ x 11′
Hello? Anyone home?

Best answer:

Answer by Kanesha J
Yes. If you can afford it

They have a really good deal on a viewsonic pj506d svga projector. 469, but you get the screen and mount at no charge with a rebate.

I am a little worried about the warranty though. It is a xmas present so if II buy it now, I will lose half the 1 year lamp warranty that comes with it which seems like the most important part.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I also do not want wireless speakers. I only hear bad comments about wireless.

Often the main consideration when purchasing a TV was what size screen you want. This was generally dictated by your finances and . When those requirements were the project was simple. Purchasing a TV in the present market is a much more complex task: there are LCDs, Plasmas, and projectors to decide from. Ahead of a purchase can be completed, to begin with an individual must comprehend what these options are along with how they match against each other.

Plasma and LCD’s operate in a different way to obtain the same required effect: giving a sharp, clear, highly responsive image. lcd tvs have crystal cells that tighten and unwind appropriately as they are sparked via an electronic pulse. A bright backlight suffuses the cells and as they turn they filter out every colour in the spectrum apart from for the required one. Plasma screens have millions of pixels that, once activated, release gases that work to produce a particular colour in the red, blue and green bands enclosed within the pixels.

Up until recently Plasma TVs were extensively superior a variety of pionts. Due to the winding and unwinding action of the cells in LCD panels, high-speed moving video, specially sports and action films, frequently displayed a trailing impression as the images changed and moved. Plasma TVs do not showthis because each of their pixels is activated one by one. Plasmas produce undistorted images at sharply-angled viewpoints, not like LCD screens, whose images can show fairly distorted when watched at similar angles. Plasma panels also revealed much vivid colours than LCD screens, with particularly deep blacks.

Enhancements and upgrades in the LCD set up have allowed it to match Plasmas in feilds that it had shown weakness. lcd tvs also boast many clear advantages over Plasmas. Plasma panels may have in the beginning been able to show off the largest screens, but they by no means have the smallest. LCD screens now have screen sizes that can virtually match the largest plasma screens, and they can be manufactured so minute that they equip many mobile phones. They’re also a great deal more portable. Plasmas are extremely heavy and normally thicker televisions, which makes it awkward to move them. They also can’t be mounted to fragile ceilings or walls on account of their weight.

Plasma TVs do have their own problems. Since they hold gases, they’re also affected by air pressure. Therefore they don’t act as effectively at high altitudes. lcd tvs, but, are not fazed by this. Therefore, they’re used in generally all airlines and are ideal in various high cities. Plasma televisions what’s more encounter a burn-in effect, which comes about when a still image is left on the screen for a long period of time. This can occur when a film or game is kept on pause for an extended duration, or if the screen is being used to transmit computer imagery. Subject to the extent of time the image is left on the screen, the burn-in can be harsh and everlasting.

LCD panels are steadily becoming the obvious choice. The most important thing to most customers, the price, has smoothed out so that Plasma panels aren’t the guaranteed best-buy. The developments to the expertise and the price have let LCD televisions to develop into the leading format in the TV market.

lcd tvs are getting better and becoming central in every area – factually: they are now starting to submit 3D screens. In addition, they can last function for longer than Plasma screens. Even though they tend to be rated for similar lifespans, the end of the Plasma television’s lifespan highlights the aspect at which it is half as sharp as it in the beginning was, while the projected end of an LCD screen’s life is highlighted by the time where the backlight burns out. At these points a Plasma TV will continue fading until the image is no longer discernible, while the LCD screen’s backlight can be changed.

Furthermore if your not giving Powerpoint presentations in various areas, projectors are no way as good as LCDs.
