Will this work? (Cable box to monitor)?

Question by Billy B: Will this work? (Cable box to monitor)?
So, what I plan to do is, rather than buying a $ 260 monitor for my bedroom, buy a $ 200 monitor instead. I have a cable box and I was wondering if i could use a cable that converts S-Video to VGA. Would this work without any other hardware? I have a DirecTV standard receiver box and plan on buying probably viewsonic vx2433wm monitor.

Also, I planned on getting a VGA splitter, like this one

http://www.amazon.com/Cable-VGA-HD15-Male-Female/dp/B000BSHI4C/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_c

—-or this one—–

http://www.amazon.com/Projector-Splitter-cable-Plated-connectors/dp/B000FI2EAG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1260083236&sr=1-3

These VGA splitter cables are really meant to send one signal to two monitors but I want to use it to plug in the cable box AND the computer to the monitor so i don’t have to switch them out when i alternate use. Would the cable work for this or not? I obviously wouldn’t be using them both at once.

Considering audio, when using the cable box, I just about always use headphones. So, I planned on a cable that I already have which is RCA L and R to 3.5mm stereo (male), plugged into a coupler, with a male end of a 3.5mm cable with volume control on it plugged into that coupler, then my headphones plugged into that volume control cable. I am not too particular when it comes to sound quality, but am I going to even be able to make out the audio after all those connections?

Thank you for your help in any of the questions above because I know there are more than one =)

It should work, but your resolution will be of standard definition, that is, something like 640×480. This is not changeable.
Those splitters will not work; it will not discriminate what kind of signal should go through to the monitor and which should not at the same time. You will be better off investing in a KVM switch that will do what you want to do.

How do i make my internal speakers work?

Question by Patrick: How do i make my internal speakers work?
I have my laptop hooked up to a ViewSonic monitor and im using it on Dsub. The picture and is transferring to the monitor (i have it set as a projector from the laptop) and the mouse and external keyboard are working fine. But i want to know how to make the speakers on the monitor work too. When i watch a video or some sort of sound plays, the sound plays through the laptop, which i have closed right now. Does any one know how to make the sound transfer to the speakers on my monitor?

There must be a audio cable which was supplied with your monitor. You need to use that to connect to audio port of your laptop to be able to hear audio on your monitor.

Q&A: I am having problems with ViewSonic PJ551 and Windows Vista. WinXP and PJ551 work fine. Any help?

Question by Elfin: I am having problems with ViewSonic PJ551 and Windows Vista. WinXP and PJ551 work fine. Any help?
I have tried calling Microsoft, ViewSonic and Dell but no answers so far. What happens is when using Windows Vista, after about five minutes, the screen becomes scrambled. But when using WinXP, the projector has no problems. I understand it might be an issue dealing with Vista, was wondering if anyone else had this problem and/or found a solution.

It sounds pretty obvious that Vista is behind this, and you might be dealing with some driver issues.

Does a Projector require the exact lamp recommended, or will a similar lamp work as well?

Question by Topher84: Does a Projector require the exact lamp recommended, or will a similar lamp work as well?
I have a Viewsonic Cine1000, which uses a 200W lamp. Would another Viewsonic lamp with the same wattage, work just as well? Thanks.

Answer by Daniel K
Only if it is the exact same part number. You can google each projector to see what type each uses.

I need help mounting a front end projector in my apartment. Will this idea work well enough? anyone else try?

I picked up a Viewsonic PJ506D projector with a free 80″ screen and ceiling mount. I live in an apartment and don’t want the landlord freaking out when they walk in and see a projector hanging from the ceiling.

Seeing as I no longer need or want an “entertainment center”, I got this idea about how to mount it. Buy a end table sized “entertain center” to store my Dvd, Wii and HTPC in. Attached a stained to match 1×4 to the “entertainment center. with a shelf hanging out on top of the 1×4 near the ceiling. the then mount the projector on the underside of the raised “platform as if it were the ceiling. I could then duct the wired back down and into the base. I would then put in between two of the viewing chairs as a end table.

Has anyone else ever seen someone do this. I would feel more confident modding an endtable if I have seen pics of someone else doing it.

think it will work?

I’m reading articles online stating that the ps3 and Xbox 360 users are dissapointed that these projectors do not support HDMI Input, but can a PS3 still be connected to these projectors if they support the standered RCA components?

Or, inorder too connect any projector to a PS3 I would have to purchase one that supports HDMI? the projector also supports S-Video Input also if that makes a differents….

As you can see I’m pretty cluless to what projectors support the PS3 console. PLEASE HELP
