Hi, i am going to buy a NEC MultiSync VT540K Projector for about $200. Is this a good deal. How does it compare to newer LCD projectors?

Stick with DLP projectors they so good on colours. My sharp projector was £4,000 in 2007 its a DLP. I would never go with LCD’s.
It’ a great deal especially if there is life left on the lamp. If you have to buy a new lamp right out the gates, then you will have to spend another $300-$400. Also you should realize that The blue lcd panel will eventually fail. This is an inherent problem with all LCD projections. They use magnifiers to increase the blues’ intensity since our eyes have a hard time seeing blue. This excessive light will eventually destroy the LCD panel or the polarizer plate. You can run this projector in a manner that will destroy it prematurely, or baby it along and get years of operation. First of all it was never meant to be run for over 8 hours a day five days a week.If you use it less than 40 hours a week you can extend the life. There is a fine mesh filter that needs constant cleaning. Smoke, dust and heat is it’s mortal enemy. You will be hard pressed to find another multisync projector for $200.
